When you go boating, you want to have fun and enjoy yourself. There is nothing wrong with this but it is important to do your part for the environment so everyone will have a safe and enjoyable place for many years to come. Here are five things to remember that will help you have an environmentally friendly time. 1. Don’t Throw Trash into the Water There is no reason to toss empty beverage containers or food wrappers into your local bodies of water. This causes a great deal of debris and can result in toxic build up over time. Never throw out plastic six pack holders. If these things get into the water, it’s possible for innocent creatures to be captured and trapped inside of them. This can result in terrible tragedies, including needless loss of life, and pain and suffering. When you toss garbage into our bodies of water, you make it hard on everyone. It looks terrible and people visiting will think that everyone in Atlantic Canada is thoughtless and selfish. This is not a good way to attract ...

Boating is one of the most relaxing and enjoyable things you can do and this is something that everyone in Atlantic Canada has a right to. However, because there may be many other people out there, it is important to be responsible and think of others. This will make the waters much better for everyone involved. Here are some important things to remember about responsible boating. Use the Right Places It can cause a lot of problems if you venture into an area that is not designed for your vessel. For example, if no motorized boats are allowed and you take your powered vessel there, it’s going to upset a lot of people and create a great deal of unnecessary noise. In addition, there is a reason for boating restrictions. For instance, powered boats may be harmful to some types of marine creatures. Don’t Try to Save Money on Life Vests Always use life jackets and vests that have been properly tested and approved. Atlantic Canada is a great place to go boating. There is so much to do and so many fun activities, especially in the warm and lovely weather. However, the unexpected can happen on the water and this can present special hazards that you will not face on land. Here are 8 helpful tips to keep you and your family safe while you are having fun with your boat. 1. Wear Your Lifejacket It may look daring and cool to speed through the water without wearing a life jacket or flotation device, but it is not smart. Maybe you think you are a great swimmer and you won’t need a life jacket if you are suddenly thrown into the water. However, you never know what can happen. Suppose the boat capsized and you were struck in the head? What would happen if your legs were seriously injured in an accident? It only takes a few minutes to drown, and if you have a life jacket on, it can make the difference between life and death. 2. Have an Emergency Plan What would happen if you faced a sudden storm or the boat tipped over? ...

Do I Really Need Liability Insurance for my Pleasure Boat? It’s not a big boat and it didn’t cost a ton of money.  I only plan to take it on the water a few times this year, so why should I have to worry about any kind of boat insurance? After all, what could possibly happen while I’m taking a short cruise or fishing? This is a common sentiment among many people that plan to take small trips this year.  However, the truth is,  boat insurance is very important and without it, you could be in some serious trouble.  What is Boating Liability Insurance?  There are two main components of liability coverage.  Both of these coverages provide valuable protection and they come as a package in Canada.  Property Damage Liability Property damage liability covers damage that you might accidentally inflict on other people’s boats or property.  For example, suppose you were out boating and a collision occurred.  True, this is a rare instance, but it ...

Clarification of Fact - Fishing Vessel Policy

Written by on 4/20/2015 1:35 PM in , , , , , , , , . It has 0 Comments.

We have recently been advised of a misrepresentation being made about our Fishing Vessel Insurance Policy we feel obligated to publicly correct due to its incredulity. A licensed Insurance broker  has been reported by more than one individual to be advising our clients and prospective clients that they are not permitted to abandon their vessel at sea in the event of an emergency if they wish to later make an insurance claim for damages to or the loss of their vessel.   We are alarmed by these statements to say the least.  We can categorically advise there never has been, is not and never will be a requirement of any policy of insurance provided by Fairway Insurance Services Inc.  that the owner, master or crew of a vessel must lose their life in order to place a vessel insurance claim.   We are shocked by the actions of our competitor and invite his current employer to take the required disciplinary action to ensure such fabrication does not occur again in the future. We ...
